Hi, I’m Steph — and MCM Vault is my little love letter to mid-century modern furniture, Australian-made pieces, and the kind of craftsmanship that truly stands the test of time.
What started as a simple appreciation for beautiful, well-built furniture slowly grew into a passion for giving vintage pieces another chance to shine. There’s something special about rescuing a Parker dining table or a Mentone dresser and knowing it already carries decades of family stories and quiet charm.
Here at MCM Vault, we focus on refurbishing, not full-blown restoring. That means we gently refresh each piece while keeping the character that makes it unique — the nicks, small marks, and soft wear that reflect its age and history. My approach is rooted in a slow, sustainable mindset:
“How can we help this piece stay in a home longer?”
Having also run a jewellery brand Jane Finch built on sustainability and intentional making, embracing secondhand pieces feels like a natural extension of what I care about most — quality, longevity, and reducing waste by choosing furniture that’s already proven its worth.
My favourite moment in the process? Without question, it’s the oil finish. Watching the timber grain come back to life — warm, rich, and glowing — never gets old.
Behind the scenes, you’ll also find my partner David. He’s the practical, strategic half of our team: the heavy lifter, the refurb assistant, and the person who hears all of my wild ideas and doesn't hesitate when he says “let’s send it.” Together, we strike a good balance — his practicality and my creativity — united by a shared love of good design and craftsmanship.
We work out of our small studio in Laverton North, Melbourne, open by appointment every Sunday and Monday. You’re welcome to drop by, explore current pieces, and chat all things vintage. We also offer local delivery across Melbourne, Geelong, and the Mornington Peninsula, making it easy to bring a refurbished mid-century piece home.
At its heart, MCM Vault is about celebrating Australian mid-century furniture and objects, honouring the craftsmanship of makers who built things to last, and keeping incredible vintage pieces out of landfill and in loving homes where they belong.
